Jessica Joan is a photographer living and working in London. Nuanced and multifaceted, her work often delves into the intricacies of feminist theory. In her newest series, ‘Feet Without a Face’, there is a distinct element of the cinematic and the fantastical, the darkly comic images satirising the many depictions we see of women in film playing the role of the ideal housewife.
Joan's work reveals a spectrum of influences that meanders from 1920s silent films to sixties horror aesthetics to her own experience of domestic dynamics in relationships. Joan simultaneously comments on the female role in film at large and the mental load - the invisible labour women are often still subject to in domestic life today.
